Teacher: Science
Craig grew up in Washington State and graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in English and Zoology. His studies reflect his two main interests: reading and reptiles. After university, Craig worked for several years as a head instructor at a therapeutic wilderness program in Idaho. During his time in wilderness therapy he discovered that he enjoyed working with and teaching children. When he was ready to move on from the program he decided to combine his love of science with his new found appreciation of teaching. Consequently he went back to school to become a certified teacher with endorsements in biology and general science. At Cherry Gulch, Craig teaches physical, earth and life sciences. In and out of the classroom, he uses a variety of instructional strategies (from cooperative learning to inquiry based activities) to engage his students in the learning of science. His goal is to create a classroom environment that develops critical thinking skills and encourages curiosity about the natural world. In his free time, Craig likes to ride his bike (sometimes going for a long distance tour), play acoustic guitar around the campfire, read (his current interest is in twentieth century fiction from Eastern Europe), and wander the back roads of Idaho catching lizards. |
