Bonnie, a native Idahoan, comes to Cherry Gulch after 25 years of service in Idaho public schools, a residential psychiatric hospital in Boise, and most recently in a therapeutic day program with NCH, Northwest Children’s Home. At NCH, she was the program manager, special education teacher, and counselor. Prior to that, she worked with 12 to 17 year old emotionally disturbed adolescents in a hospital setting for 13 years which was very demanding on account of the diverse range of ages and abilities but rewarding. This experience was preceded by 5 years as a special education teacher in the public school system at Meridian Middle School in Meridian, Idaho and Park Intermediate in Weiser, Idaho.
Bonnie has a Masters in School and Community Counseling from the College of Idaho and a Bachelors of Arts in Special Education with a minor in Spanish as well as Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education. She is an active member of the CCBD (Council for Children with Behavior Disorders) which is a division of the Council for Exceptional Children of which she is treasurer. She is also a member of the Council for Learning Disabilities and the Division on Career Development and Transition.
Bonnie is very passionate about her student’s success and believes that every student has the ability to learn when provided with the right tools and environment. “Whatever it takes,” she always says. Her other passions include golf, beading jewelry, painting with water colors, traveling with her husband Bruce and spending time with friends and three cats.
